Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureC
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Lions a B+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Lions did exactly that with Joe Milton III in pick No. 164. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Graham Barton
A slide stopped in the 36th overall pick, with Graham Barton worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick40 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
A tidy bit of business in slot 40, where Adonai Mitchell graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
A quiet steal in No. 69: Xavier Legette for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick72 Rnd3 Xavier Worthy
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Xavier Worthy in the 72nd pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick73 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
A tidy little value on Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick105 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine is a better player than the 105th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111 Rnd4 Patrick Paul
Somehow Patrick Paul was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick119 Rnd4 Caelen Carson
Caelen Carson in pick 119 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick164 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
They reached a country mile for Joe Milton III at No. 164, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
