Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
McCarthy is the Raiders' new face under center. Grade: A-.

The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

Zinter falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

They will need Randolph Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.

Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick61 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa in slot 61 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick73 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe slid further than he should have, and the 73rd overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick80 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 80th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick112 Rnd4 Will Shipley
No drama and no debate, Will Shipley went about where he belonged in No. 112. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
No edge and no loss on Luke McCaffrey in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick149 Rnd5 Zak Zinter
You do not let an offensive lineman like Zak Zinter reach pick 149 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick164 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
They liked Ty'Ron Hopper enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 164. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick194 Rnd6 Keith Randolph Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Keith Randolph Jr. in pick No. 194 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick208 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at pick 208 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick223 Rnd7 Evan Williams
They went early on Evan Williams in Round 7, Pick 3, and the value did not follow. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick229 Rnd7 Garret Greenfield
Garret Greenfield at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
