Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans let Carter fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Abdul Carter got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at the Round 2 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The cost of the Hancock reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In slot 24 they get a true top target at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41
Rnd2
Abdul Carter
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 9 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick56
Rnd2
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at No. 56 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick88
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Taking Andrew Mukuba in the 88th pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick120
Rnd4
Aireontae Ersery
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Aireontae Ersery at pick 120 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick155
Rnd5
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in pick No. 155 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick216
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
The board had Jalon Daniels higher than the Round 7 slot, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
