Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B- to prove it.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 21 spots for Julian Fleming, and value like that does not grow back.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Grant.

Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Denzel Burke
In pick No. 24 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick41 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
A slide stopped in pick 41, with Kenneth Grant worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick56 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
Josh Conerly Jr. in No. 56 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick88 Rnd3 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at the 88th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick120 Rnd4 Nick Emmanwori
No edge and no loss on Nick Emmanwori in Round 4, Pick 24; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick155 Rnd5 Julian Fleming
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Julian Fleming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick216 Rnd7 J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
