Draft Grade — Texans

Grand theft in No. 155: the Texans steal Gabriel and grade out a B-.

The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Dillon Gabriel fell into the 155th overall pick. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In No. 24 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41 Rnd2 Barrett Carter
They paid sticker price for Barrett Carter in pick 41, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick56 Rnd2 Jordan Hancock
No drama and no debate, Jordan Hancock went about where he belonged in pick No. 56. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick88 Rnd3 Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse in Round 3, Pick 24 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick120 Rnd4 Nick Emmanwori
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nick Emmanwori. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick155 Rnd5 Dillon Gabriel
The board fumbled Dillon Gabriel all the way to the 155th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick216 Rnd7 Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at the 216th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
