Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans robbed the room for Ward. Final grade: B-.

Call it larceny. Cam Ward sat on the board until pick 155, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Denzel Burke
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. More want than need.
Pick41 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
A clean, defensible pick in No. 41 with a little surplus value in Landon Jackson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick56 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
Josh Conerly Jr. at the 56th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick88 Rnd3 Dontay Corleone
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Dontay Corleone reach pick No. 88 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick120 Rnd4 Nick Emmanwori
No edge and no loss on Nick Emmanwori in pick 120; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick155 Rnd5 Cam Ward
Cam Ward in slot 155 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick216 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jack Kiser in Round 7, Pick 24. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
