Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Texans a B.

Every other box got a look, but wide receiver did not. The Texans will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

They banked enough surplus on Turner to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Hancock reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Harold Perkins Jr.
In pick No. 24 they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 9, with Kenneth Grant worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick56 Rnd2 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at the 56th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick88 Rnd3 Donovan Edwards
They did well to land Donovan Edwards in No. 88, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick120 Rnd4 Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner slid further than he should have, and slot 120 is lovely value for the edge rusher. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick155 Rnd5 Jack Nelson
Fair-plus on Jack Nelson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick216 Rnd7 Preston Stone
Preston Stone in the 216th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
