FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B-. The war room fell hard for Mason Fairchild, and it showed at the 245th pick: 79 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
On value alone, Fisher makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: running back settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick59
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
Steal is underselling it; Adonai Mitchell at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick85
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
They reached a country mile for Leonard Taylor III at No. 85, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick124
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the 124th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick128
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Taking Blake Fisher in pick No. 128 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161
Rnd5
James Williams
They will replay James Williams at pick 161 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan in pick 236 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick245
Rnd7
Mason Fairchild
Mason Fairchild at slot 245 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
