Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

The Texans did not so much draft Nolan Rucci as overpay for him, 43 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

However the rest shakes out, Gabriel at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Denzel Burke
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner at fair value.
Pick41 Rnd2 Jack Sawyer
Jack Sawyer at pick No. 41 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick56 Rnd2 Danny Stutsman
A premium they did not need to pay, Danny Stutsman a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Pick88 Rnd3 Malachi Moore
They paid up for Malachi Moore at the 88th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick120 Rnd4 Dillon Gabriel
Dillon Gabriel in Round 4, Pick 24 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick155 Rnd5 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at the 155th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick216 Rnd7 Nolan Rucci
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nolan Rucci this early at pick 216. It fills a real need, too.
