Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Jha'Quan Jackson, the No. 178 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first. If Lovett pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
