Best value of the weekend goes to the Vikings for Nix: D. Somebody took the Vikings to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety. The cost of the Ali reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Getting Nix where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick20
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
In pick 20 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
Bo Nix
Bo Nix in No. 42 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick51
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in pick No. 70 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick109
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Nothing to complain about; Khyree Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick130
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
Fair-plus on Sataoa Laumea, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick156
Rnd5
Cam Hart
They read the board right and Cam Hart was the payoff at the 156th overall pick. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick190
Rnd6
Jordan Jefferson
They did well to land Jordan Jefferson in the 190th pick, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick191
Rnd6
Emani Bailey
They took Emani Bailey at par in slot 191, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick197
Rnd6
Rasheen Ali
Rasheen Ali at Round 6, Pick 22 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick218
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 218 with a little surplus value in De'Corian Clark. It fills a real need, too.
