FutureB-
Larceny in the Round 7 slot lands the Vikings a B+, Still and all. Call it larceny. Tarheeb Still sat on the board until No. 235, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In slot 12 they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
They took J.J. McCarthy at par in pick No. 43, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith at the 109th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick116
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at No. 116 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick145
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen in pick 145 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick148
Rnd5
Cam Hart
The board had Cam Hart higher than the 148th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick157
Rnd5
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 21 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It fills a real need, too.
Pick166
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
They read the board right and Ty'Ron Hopper was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick175
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
A reasonable price with a little left over, LaDarius Henderson in pick No. 175. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick179
Rnd6
Layden Robinson
They did well to land Layden Robinson in the 179th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick189
Rnd6
Julian Pearl
By-the-book stuff, Julian Pearl at pick 189 squarely in line with his ranking. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick196
Rnd6
Kitan Oladapo
They will replay Kitan Oladapo at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick227
Rnd7
Isaiah Williams
Circle this one: Isaiah Williams at No. 227 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick235
Rnd7
Tarheeb Still
Tarheeb Still in the 235th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
