A franchise passer in Penix Jr. headlines a A- weekend for the Vikings. The Vikings did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kiran Amegadjie fell into the 162nd pick. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
So much rides on Michael Penix Jr. that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. It is not that Hart is a bad player; it is that the Vikings had louder needs to answer first.
They are betting Rogers proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In the end it comes back to Michael Penix Jr., and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Michael Penix Jr.
In the 14th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
Terrion Arnold
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Terrion Arnold at No. 44. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick112
Rnd4
Cam Hart
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Cam Hart in the 112th overall pick leaves safety, running back and other spots for later.
Pick114
Rnd4
Justin Rogers
They left a pile of value on the table to take Justin Rogers this early at slot 114. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick127
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
They went early on Beaux Limmer in No. 127, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149
Rnd5
Devontez Walker
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Devontez Walker in pick No. 149, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick162
Rnd5
Kiran Amegadjie
They robbed the room for Kiran Amegadjie here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick165
Rnd5
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in the 165th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick179
Rnd6
Keith Randolph Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Keith Randolph Jr. at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick235
Rnd7
Moose Muhammad III
They barely believed it either: Moose Muhammad III still on the board at pick 235. The roster fit checks out.
