Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueA NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots let Brown fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Sammy Brown, the Round 4 slot, roughly 86 picks past where he belonged.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Jeremiah Smith
In pick 13 they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44 Rnd2 Dylan Stewart
Dylan Stewart in slot 44 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75 Rnd3 A'Mauri Washington
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, A'Mauri Washington in No. 75, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112 Rnd4 Sammy Brown
They robbed the room for Sammy Brown here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick160 Rnd5 Koi Perich
Koi Perich at Round 5, Pick 23 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick182 Rnd6 Hollywood Smothers
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hollywood Smothers in pick No. 182. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick195 Rnd6 Nicholas Rodriguez
Circle this one: Nicholas Rodriguez at the 195th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick212 Rnd6 Coen Echols
Coen Echols in the 212th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick250 Rnd7 Stephiylan Green
No drama and no debate, Stephiylan Green went about where he belonged in the 250th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick257 Rnd7 Addison Nichols
Addison Nichols at pick No. 257 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
