Draft Grade — Texans
Overall C
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

Nobody had DJ Campbell this high, and it is not close. The Texans reached 37 spots to get him at pick No. 155.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Carter to cover a lot of smaller sins.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Deone Walker
In the 24th overall pick they get a disruptive interior force at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Abdul Carter
Abdul Carter at No. 41 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick56 Rnd2 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at the 56th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
Pick88 Rnd3 Nic Anderson
They did well to land Nic Anderson in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick93 Rnd3 Devin Neal
A conviction pick on Devin Neal at pick 93 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick115 Rnd4 Wyatt Milum
By-the-book stuff, Wyatt Milum at slot 115 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick120 Rnd4 Nick Emmanwori
A premium they did not need to pay, Nick Emmanwori a notch or two before his time. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick155 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
A big swing on DJ Campbell at the 155th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick216 Rnd7 Will Howard
Will Howard at Round 7, Pick 24 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
