Good, not great, for the 49ers: B.

Nobody else had Giles Jackson anywhere near Round 7, Pick 14. The 49ers did, by 129 spots, and that gap is the whole story. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

However the rest shakes out, Mullings at that price is a win they earned. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Taking Aireontae Ersery in No. 75 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.

They did well to land Malachi Moore in the 99th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.

Savion Williams at pick 112 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.

This one needs a full-page explanation: JJ Pegues in Round 4, Pick 37, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.

Circle this one: Charles Grant at Round 4, Pick 38 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.

Kalel Mullings in slot 189 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
