Draft Grade — Seahawks

FutureB
The Seahawks turned the phones into found money: B+. Nobody had Jaleel Johnson this high, and it is not close. The Seahawks reached 48 spots to get him at pick 236. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Viliamu-Asa. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
They will answer for taking safety early while running back and tight end went begging. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Will Echoles
In the 29th overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick46
Rnd2
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick47
Rnd2
Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper in slot 47 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick80
Rnd3
Devan Thompkins
A quiet steal in pick No. 80: Devan Thompkins for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100
Rnd3
Greg Johnson
Steal is underselling it; Greg Johnson at pick 100 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick101
Rnd3
Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu at No. 101 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123
Rnd4
Earl Little Jr.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Earl Little Jr. in Round 4, Pick 22 leaves running back and tight end for later.
Pick135
Rnd4
Devin McCuin
They jumped the gun on Devin McCuin, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jalen Mayo
The board had Jalen Mayo higher than the 153rd overall pick, and the defensive back fell to them anyway. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick174
Rnd5
Demond Williams Jr.
Demond Williams Jr. slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick177
Rnd5
Elijah Paige
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Elijah Paige. It fills a real need, too.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. at pick No. 193 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jaleel Johnson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaleel Johnson. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
