Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-

FutureB+
A passer of the future in Williams, and a B-, for the Bears. Start where it matters. The Bears took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Every board in the league had Bell lower, and that gap is the story. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
Pick16
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick No. 16 they get a true top target at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 20th pick they get protection for the quarterback, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Nate Wiggins
You do not let a cornerback like Nate Wiggins reach No. 36 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick56
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in the 56th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75
Rnd3
Keon Coleman
The board fumbled Keon Coleman all the way to slot 75, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick82
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
The board had Kamren Kinchens higher than pick 82, and the safety fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick87
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick101
Rnd4
T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa in slot 101 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick106
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
They went early on Matt Goncalves in pick 106, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick111
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
A quiet steal in pick No. 111: Brenden Rice for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick118
Rnd4
DeWayne Carter
Quietly one of the better values of the day, DeWayne Carter at the 118th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaheim Bell this early at the Round 4 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick143
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
A straight-up fair deal on Tommy Eichenberg at Round 5, Pick 7, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick193
Rnd6
Sione Vaki
Circle this one: Sione Vaki at No. 193 is a fall that decides a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick230
Rnd7
Keith Randolph Jr.
They robbed the room for Keith Randolph Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
