Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall F
ValueD+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The 49ers went off-script early, and it cost them a F.

Nobody had Rivaldo Fairweather this high, and it is not close. The 49ers reached 159 spots to get him at Round 7, Pick 37. The board sounded every alarm, and the F is the fallout.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. On value alone, Johnson makes the weekend a net positive. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left quarterback open, and the grade is the bill.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
No edge and no loss on Nick Emmanwori in No. 21; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick43 Rnd2 Deone Walker
This one needs a full-page explanation: Deone Walker in pick No. 43, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick52 Rnd2 Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott in the Round 2 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75 Rnd3 Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo in the 75th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick83 Rnd3 Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo in the 83rd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick99 Rnd3 Tai Felton
They robbed the room for Tai Felton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112 Rnd4 Nick Martin
A big swing on Nick Martin at pick 112, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 122, where Jared Wilson graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 138th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick139 Rnd4 Fadil Diggs
A real head-scratcher, Fadil Diggs in No. 139 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148 Rnd5 Tez Johnson
Circle this one: Tez Johnson at Round 5, Pick 9 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick189 Rnd6 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at slot 189 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick228 Rnd7 Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai in the 228th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick232 Rnd7 Kain Medrano
They talked themselves into Kain Medrano at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick255 Rnd7 Rivaldo Fairweather
Rivaldo Fairweather at No. 255 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
