Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
D
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB+
The Panthers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. The Panthers clearly saw something nobody else did in John Morgan III, taking him 138 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. The McCaffrey steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
JC Latham
In No. 23 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick62
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Nothing to complain about; Chris Braswell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick65
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
They paid a round early for Cooper Beebe in the 65th pick, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick85
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in slot 85 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick97
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil slipping to Round 3, Pick 34 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick99
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
Somehow Roman Wilson was still sitting there in pick 99, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick102
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in No. 102 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick119
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at pick 119 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick151
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper at slot 151 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick161
Rnd5
Eric Watts
Value said wait; Eric Watts in the 161st pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick165
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
They will replay Luke McCaffrey at Round 5, Pick 29 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick180
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylen Harrell well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick219
Rnd6
Anthony Gould
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Anthony Gould. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Isaac Guerendo
They talked themselves into Isaac Guerendo at the 236th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick246
Rnd7
John Morgan III
John Morgan III at No. 246 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
