Best value of the weekend goes to the Bills for James: B. The Bills did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and DJ James fell into pick 159.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had Clark lower, and that gap is the story.
Linebacker is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
Graham Barton
They let Graham Barton come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99
Rnd3
DeWayne Carter
No drama and no debate, DeWayne Carter went about where he belonged in slot 99. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick129
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in the 129th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick159
Rnd5
DJ James
You do not let a cornerback like DJ James reach pick No. 159 and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick162
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
Somehow Tommy Eichenberg was still sitting there in the 162nd pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick197
Rnd6
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis in pick 197 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick202
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
A reach on De'Corian Clark in No. 202; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick206
Rnd6
Julian Pearl
Julian Pearl is a better player than No. 206 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick246
Rnd7
Taulia Tagovailoa
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Taulia Tagovailoa. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
