FutureC
The jury is out on the Colts. For now, C. The Colts looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Joe Milton III at slot 151 regardless, 50 picks early. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
Kinchens at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Darius Slay gives the group a proven body among the projects.
So much rides on Quinyon Mitchell that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In No. 13 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
Pick22
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick55
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe slid further than he should have, and the 55th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Pick77
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens is a better player than pick No. 77 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick86
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at pick 86 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
They went early on Beaux Limmer in slot 112, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Maason Smith
They did well to land Maason Smith in Round 4, Pick 17, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick120
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at pick 120 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick123
Rnd4
Isaiah Davis
A wild overpay on Isaiah Davis in the 123rd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick135
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell in No. 135 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick151
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick158
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
They let Luke McCaffrey come to them and pounced at the 158th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick184
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in slot 184 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick185
Rnd6
Dominique Hampton
They reached a country mile for Dominique Hampton at pick No. 185, and the board is aghast. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick191
Rnd6
Myles Cole
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Myles Cole. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick234
Rnd7
Evan Anderson
A big swing on Evan Anderson at pick 234, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
