Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA
Maye is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D.

The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The Bears indulged a want in McKinstry while a need in running back, cornerback and other spots stayed open. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

Reaching for Van Pran left real value on the table behind him. However the rest shakes out, McMillan at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Drake Maye
By-the-book stuff, Drake Maye at No. 4 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick5 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 5th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick10 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
Of all the spots to shop, they chose defensive back. Kool-Aid McKinstry in the 10th pick leaves running back, cornerback and other spots for later.
Pick37 Rnd2 Dallas Turner
A slide stopped in slot 37, with Dallas Turner worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick54 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
A reach for Sedrick Van Pran in pick No. 54; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick68 Rnd3 Ladd McConkey
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ladd McConkey in Round 3, Pick 4. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69 Rnd3 Princely Umanmielen
Princely Umanmielen at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick104 Rnd4 Tyleik Williams
No edge and no loss on Tyleik Williams in pick 104; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan at the 141st overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
