Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Styles should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a D.

The Texans lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.

Capehart has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Will Campbell
Circle this one: Will Campbell at pick 24 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick41 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka in the 41st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Barrett Carter
By-the-book stuff, Barrett Carter at pick No. 43 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick63 Rnd2 Quincy Riley
They paid sticker price for Quincy Riley in the 63rd overall pick, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick75 Rnd3 Devin Neal
They reached a country mile for Devin Neal at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick88 Rnd3 Clay Webb
Clay Webb in No. 88 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick95 Rnd3 Derrick Moore
A premium they did not need to pay, Derrick Moore a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick120 Rnd4 Sonny Styles
They barely believed it either: Sonny Styles still on the board at the 120th pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick155 Rnd5 Jaeden Roberts
They went early on Jaeden Roberts in Round 5, Pick 27, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick216 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in pick 216 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
