The Colts bled value on every deal, hence the D-. The rest of the league had time to spare on Myles Cole; the Colts did not wait, grabbing him 69 spots ahead at Round 5, Pick 18. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. The JL Skinner deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
A straight-up fair deal on Quinyon Mitchell at the 15th pick, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick46
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at pick 46 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick82
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
They paid sticker price for Michael Hall Jr. in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick118
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
They jumped the gun on Johnny Wilson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in No. 144 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick150
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joe Milton III in pick No. 150, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick153
Rnd5
Cedric Johnson
A real head-scratcher, Cedric Johnson in the 153rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick154
Rnd5
Myles Cole
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Myles Cole. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick191
Rnd6
Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy at pick No. 191 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick193
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Gabe Hall well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick232
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
They reached a country mile for Edefuan Ulofoshio at No. 232, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
