A sensible, unshowy class lands the Patriots a B.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Patriots did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Arnold at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The skill positions did well by the weekend.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

In the 3rd pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.

Terrion Arnold is a better player than the 34th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.

Edgerrin Cooper slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 4 is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor need, but a need all the same.

The board had Bucky Irving higher than slot 103, and the running back fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.

They did well to land Malik Mustapha in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
