Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B

The Steelers turned the phones into found money: B.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Steelers spent Round 3, Pick 22 on Drew Allar, a name most had 60 spots down the list.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They banked enough surplus on Haulcy to cover a lot of smaller sins. The World pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back and tight end still on the board.

For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Kadyn Proctor
Kadyn Proctor in slot 21 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick22 Rnd1 Peter Woods
A clean, defensible pick in Round 1, Pick 22 with a little surplus value in Peter Woods. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick53 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman at No. 53 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick55 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks slipping to the 55th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
The board fumbled A.J. Haulcy all the way to pick No. 76, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick85 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in the 85th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick86 Rnd3 Drew Allar
They reached into another round for Drew Allar, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad at No. 99 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick121 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
No drama and no debate, Davison Igbinosun went about where he belonged in the 121st overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick123 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels in Round 4, Pick 23 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick135 Rnd4 Isaiah World
They bypassed pressing needs at running back and tight end to take Isaiah World, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick161 Rnd5 Keagen Trost
A tidy little value on Keagen Trost in pick No. 161, a step better than break-even. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick214 Rnd6 De'Zhaun Stribling
A wild overpay on De'Zhaun Stribling in slot 214, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Pick216 Rnd6 Barion Brown
They reached a country mile for Barion Brown at pick 216, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick224 Rnd7 Dane Key
A quiet steal in pick 224: Dane Key for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick237 Rnd7 Thaddeus Dixon
They will replay Thaddeus Dixon at the 237th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
