Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
Wilson should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B.

Somebody in the 144th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Jared Wilson, the No. 101 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Jackson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Abdul Carter. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in Round 2, Pick 6 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick69 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
A running back of that caliber at slot 69 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jalen Royals
Jalen Royals at pick 77 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
A tidy bit of business in No. 106, where Kevin Winston Jr. graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick144 Rnd5 Jared Wilson
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jared Wilson reach the 144th overall pick and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217 Rnd7 Robert Longerbeam
No edge and no loss on Robert Longerbeam in pick No. 217; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick220 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
A conviction pick on Cam Jackson at the 220th pick that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jabbar Muhammad
By-the-book stuff, Jabbar Muhammad at Round 7, Pick 22 squarely in line with his ranking. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
