A franchise passer in Daniels headlines a B weekend for the Patriots. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Jared Wiley a full 108 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Thomas Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
They took Jayden Daniels at par in pick No. 3, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick34
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
A tidy bit of business in the 34th pick, where Brian Thomas Jr. graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick68
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Wilson at slot 68, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick116
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
They paid a round early for Mohamed Kamara in Round 4, Pick 16, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick139
Rnd5
Javon Foster
Fair-plus on Javon Foster, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
They talked themselves into Jared Wiley at the 182nd overall pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick224
Rnd7
Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
