Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
The Steelers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Steelers spent the Round 7 slot on Sam Hartman, a name most had 36 spots down the list.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Frazier pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the 19th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. More want than need.
Pick48 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in Round 2, Pick 16, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick73 Rnd3 Caelen Carson
No edge and no loss on Caelen Carson in pick No. 73; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick80 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Zach Frazier at offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open.
Pick116 Rnd4 Tory Horton
Good price on Tory Horton in No. 116, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks in pick 121 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick194 Rnd6 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They jumped the gun on Zion Tupuola-Fetui, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick224 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sam Hartman well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick237 Rnd7 Justin Eboigbe
This one needs a full-page explanation: Justin Eboigbe in No. 237, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
