Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureB
The Bears bet the future on Williams. The board says D-. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Landing Wilson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams at slot 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick15
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. at No. 15 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick46
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
The board fumbled Troy Fautanu all the way to pick 46, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at pick No. 75 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick109
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
They let Leonard Taylor III come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at the 117th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick121
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 21, where Mekhi Wingo graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
