Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
Grand theft in the 137th pick: the 49ers steal Carter and grade out a C-.

When a board-topper like Barrett Carter slides to the Round 4 slot, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not.

Griffith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.

They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

If Will Campbell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon at pick No. 43 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick73 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zy Alexander at slot 73 is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at Round 3, Pick 11 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick100 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in the 100th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
Steal is underselling it; Andrew Mukuba at pick 112 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick137 Rnd4 Barrett Carter
They will replay Barrett Carter at No. 137 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick186 Rnd6 Jonah Monheim
A big swing on Jonah Monheim at the 186th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick224 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
They left a pile of value on the table to take Thor Griffith this early at No. 224. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick231 Rnd7 Logan Parr
They read the board right and Logan Parr was the payoff at pick 231. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249 Rnd7 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson in Round 7, Pick 35 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
