Yale econ grad who led the NFL in tackles twice
Foyesade Oluokun took an unusual road to a tackling title. He earned an economics degree at Yale, played on special teams in high school alongside future Cowboys back Ezekiel Elliott, and lasted until the sixth round of the 2018 draft, going 200th overall to Atlanta as the 27th linebacker off the board.
He turned into one of the most productive defenders in football. In 2021 he led the NFL with 192 combined tackles, the seventh-most in a single season in league history, then led again in 2022 after signing with Jacksonville. He has piled up more than 1,070 career tackles with better than 11 sacks and 8 interceptions, and he added AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2025 for a game against Carolina with an interception, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.
His Madden line mirrors the climb from late-round flier to green-dot signal-caller: a 66 in the 2018 edition, up into the 80s by 2023, and a peak of 89 in the 2024 edition.
