Gerald Mincey from Cardinal Gibbons High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Mincey opted to join Florida.In 2021 as a freshman Mincey saw action in 4 games and played a total of 49 snaps for the Gators. He allowed just one QB hurry, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing at left tackle.
After the season Mincey transferred to Tennessee where as a sophomore for the Volunteers in 2022 Mincey he played in 8 games and a total of 405 snaps. He conceded 8 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and one sack while playing at left tackle.
In 2023 as a junior Mincey saw action in 11 games and totaled 510 snaps. He gave up 14 QB hurries, no QB hits, and 2 sacks while playing most of his snaps at right tackle.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Effective grappling in the phone booth, with the upper-body strength and strong hands to outbattle defenders. Mincey also shows a good understanding of angles when moving out to the second level
- Outstanding on reach blocks, showing good initial quickness and flexibility to seal the backside. He’s a heady player who is quick to recognize and react to twists and stunts up front, and Mincey shows a good sense of timing on combo blocks.
- He’ll consistently finish blocks, dropping on defenders when he has them on the ground. He shows good awareness reacting to twists and stunts as a pass protector, and he has the strength to anchor against bigger defensive linemen.
- Has the functional strength to hold up against the bull rush, and he shows exceptionally quick and precise hands.
- Has the natural power to move defenders at the point of attack. He also has the agility and speed to get out in front and land blocks at the second level. Mincey also shows a good understanding of angles when climbing to the second level.
- Best on the outside because of his height and athleticism, but is capable of blocking on the move.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- He’ll have some trouble with quickness as a pass protector; Mincey needs to make better use of his hands, and he often stops his feet once he makes initial contact as a pass protector.
- He’ll occasionally stop his feet when delivering a punch, and he doesn’t play with ideal balance when moving back into his set. He’ll often struggle to mirror if he can’t win early on passing plays.
- His physical gifts were enough to get by against collegiate opponents, but he had trouble with bull rushers when facing quality competition, which is potentially a problem in the NFL.
