Draft Profile: Bio
Jeff Sims from Sandalwood High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Sims opted to join Georgia Tech.

In 2020 as a freshman Sims saw action in 10 games for the Yellow Jackets as he threw for 1879 yards on 257 attempts with a completion percent of 54.5 for an average of 7.3 yards per pass, with 13 TDs, while taking 24 sacks, and QB rating of 73.7. He added 101 runs for a total of 642 yards at an average of 6.4 per run.

In 2021 as a sophomore he played in 7 games as he passed for 1466 yards on 187 attempts with a completion percent of 59.9 for an average of 7.8 yards per pass, with 12 TDs, while also taking 12 sacks, and putting up an excellent QB rating of 90.5. He made 61 runs for a total of 449 yards at an average of 7.4 per rush.

As a junior in 2022 Sims played a total of 7 games. He passed for 1114 yards on 188 attempts and put up a completion percentage of 58.5 for an average of 5.9 yards per attempt, with just 5 TDs, and allowing 18 sacks, with QB rating on the year of 77.7. As a runner he logged 71 runs for a total of 405 yards at an average of 5.7 per run.

After season's end Sims transferred to Nebraska where as a senior Sims saw action in just 3 games as he threw for just 282 yards on 47 attempts with a completion percent of 59.6 for an average of 6.0 yards per pass, with just one TD, while taking 6 sacks, and totaling a QB rating of 44.2. He added 37 runs for a total of 230 yards at an average of 6.2 per run.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Ball placement is a strength. Sims has the natural instincts to make plays when forced to improvise.
  • He’s an athlete who runs well and must be accounted for in the read-option game.
  • Excellent height to see over the defense.
  • A tall, lean pocket passer with room to add weight, Sims is an aggressive, confident downfield thrower.
  • He’s a pure athlete, loose-limbed and flexible. Sims has the speed to pick up yardage in scramble situations.
  • Sees the field very well when the play breaks down and occasionally changes plays at the line.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • His arm strength is decent but less than ideal; Sims lacks a little zip, and accuracy becomes an issue when he’s unable or unwilling to set his feet.
  • Inconsistent downfield passer and puts too much air under his throws.
  • Has struggled with his decision-making and needs to improve his pre-snap recognition skills to read defenses and see blitzes. Doesn't decipher information as quickly as you would like, but does see the entire field and understands coverage.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
