UAB Blazers NFL Draft Prospects

UAB stumbled to a 4-8 finish (2-6 in the American) in a 2025 season that unraveled almost as soon as it began. A 2-4 start cost Trent Dilfer his job, and offensive coordinator Alex Mortensen took over on an interim basis, promptly engineering an upset of Memphis in his first game in charge. That audition earned him the full-time role, and now he inherits a program that essentially reloaded from scratch, with only a small handful of returning starters and a roster stitched together through the transfer portal.

The other headline hire is defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, brought in to rebuild a unit that finished near the bottom of the country in total defense three years running. Mortensen will keep calling the offense himself, so the season becomes a test of whether two experienced coordinators-turned-leaders can make a collection of newcomers jell in time.
