Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B-
ValueA- NeedB- TradesC+ FutureB-
Larceny in the 82nd overall pick lands the Vikings a B-, Haulcy and all.

Call it larceny. A.J. Haulcy sat on the board until Round 3, Pick 18, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In No. 18 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick47 Rnd2 Chris Johnson
A quiet steal in pick No. 47: Chris Johnson for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick82 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy at the 82nd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick163 Rnd5 Nate Boerkircher
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nate Boerkircher in the 163rd pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick196 Rnd6 Pat Coogan
A straight-up fair deal on Pat Coogan at pick 196, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick234 Rnd7 TJ Hall
The board had TJ Hall higher than slot 234, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick244 Rnd7 Jeff Caldwell
Jeff Caldwell at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
