Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall F
ValueC NeedB TradesF FutureD+
A weekend the 49ers spent fighting the board, and losing. F.

The 49ers torched the value chart for Caleb Tiernan, taking him 30 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On value alone, Wilson makes the weekend a net positive.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.

Pick Analysis
Pick34 Rnd2 Cayden Green
The board had cheaper options than Cayden Green at No. 34, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick48 Rnd2 Nicholas Singleton
They talked themselves into Nicholas Singleton at the Round 2 slot, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick56 Rnd2 Caleb Tiernan
A wild overpay on Caleb Tiernan in slot 56, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick59 Rnd2 Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu at pick 59 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick60 Rnd2 Cashius Howell
Cashius Howell at the 60th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick78 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
A real head-scratcher, Monroe Freeling in the 78th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick92 Rnd3 Oscar Delp
A big swing on Oscar Delp at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick98 Rnd3 Domani Jackson
They paid sticker price for Domani Jackson in pick 98, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick102 Rnd3 Amare Campbell
A tidy little value on Amare Campbell in slot 102, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at the 120th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick128 Rnd4 Kage Casey
No drama and no debate, Kage Casey went about where he belonged in the 128th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick134 Rnd4 Rod Moore
Rod Moore is a better player than No. 134 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick137 Rnd4 Raylen Wilson
The board fumbled Raylen Wilson all the way to Round 4, Pick 35, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick141 Rnd5 Nic Anderson
They read the board right and Nic Anderson was the payoff at pick No. 141. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick166 Rnd5 J.Michael Sturdivant
They reached a country mile for J.Michael Sturdivant at pick No. 166, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick167 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Nwankpa at slot 167 squarely in line with his ranking. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick174 Rnd5 Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen in pick 174 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick206 Rnd6 Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Hall well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
