Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the 49ers to a D-.

The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Eric Gentry at slot 215 regardless, 49 picks early.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Lew to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In slot 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Domonique Orange
A reach for Domonique Orange in pick 58; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick92 Rnd3 Connor Lew
You do not let an offensive lineman like Connor Lew reach the 92nd overall pick and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They took Ar'maj Reed-Adams at par in No. 127, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in the 133rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jalen Stroman
Jalen Stroman at pick No. 138 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick171 Rnd5 Patrick Payton
They reached into another round for Patrick Payton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick215 Rnd6 Eric Gentry
A big swing on Eric Gentry at the 215th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick244 Rnd7 Luke Hasz
A reasonable price with a little left over, Luke Hasz in pick No. 244. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
