Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the 49ers this weekend: D-.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The 49ers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

They are betting Payton proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Gennings Dunker
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams at the 58th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick92 Rnd3 Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. at slot 92 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
Fair-plus on Michael Trigg, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
By-the-book stuff, Ar'maj Reed-Adams at No. 133 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jalen Stroman
Jalen Stroman in the 138th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick166 Rnd5 Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton in pick 166 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick171 Rnd5 Patrick Payton
They talked themselves into Patrick Payton at pick No. 171, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick195 Rnd6 Isaac Smith
Isaac Smith at slot 195 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick233 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
A reach for Jordan Hall in the Round 7 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
