Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a B- for the Patriots.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Ricky Pearsall in the 103rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.

A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 139 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.

Nice patience on Frank Gore Jr., who had no business lasting to pick No. 182. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.

Daequan Hardy at the 224th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
