Draft Grade — Bears

Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C- for the Bears.

Nobody had PJ Williams this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 208 spots to get him at slot 89. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C-.

On value alone, Bernard makes the weekend a net positive. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Zion Young
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a disruptor off the edge, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick57 Rnd2 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell in pick No. 57 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick60 Rnd2 Vincent Anthony Jr.
Vincent Anthony Jr. in the Round 2 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick89 Rnd3 PJ Williams
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for PJ Williams. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick129 Rnd4 DJ Harvey
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DJ Harvey well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick239 Rnd7 Caullin Lacy
Caullin Lacy at the 239th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick241 Rnd7 Germie Bernard
Germie Bernard in the 241st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
