Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the Jets: C-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Jets did exactly that with Rodrick Pleasant in the 2nd pick. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Boerkircher. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Rodrick Pleasant
In No. 2 they get a lockdown presence outside, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick16 Rnd1 Peter Woods
In pick 16 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Drew Allar
Drew Allar at the 33rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick44 Rnd2 Jeremiyah Love
They barely believed it either: Jeremiyah Love still on the board at the 44th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick103 Rnd4 Deion Burks
They paid sticker price for Deion Burks in slot 103, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick140 Rnd4 Kendrick Law
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kendrick Law this early at the Round 4 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick179 Rnd5 Louis Moore
Circle this one: Louis Moore at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick228 Rnd7 Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia at the 228th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick242 Rnd7 Nate Boerkircher
Nate Boerkircher in pick 242 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
