Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Vikings were there to profit. TreVeyon Henderson, the No. 55 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 154th overall pick.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Tyler Booker was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 16. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a running back like Kaleb Johnson reach the 97th overall pick and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dylan Fairchild in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Barrett Carter still on the board at No. 140. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Steal is underselling it; TreVeyon Henderson at pick No. 154 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Billy Bowman Jr. at pick 170 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Luke Lachey slid further than he should have, and the 209th pick is lovely value for the tight end. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tonka Hemingway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
