Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Elijah Roberts, taking him 39 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Henderson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In pick No. 4 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland at No. 38 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick69 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson slid further than he should have, and pick 69 is lovely value for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
No edge and no loss on Ozzy Trapilo in the 77th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick106 Rnd4 Chimere Dike
A straight-up fair deal on Chimere Dike at slot 106, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick144 Rnd5 Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts at the 144th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Upton Stout
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Upton Stout well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick220 Rnd7 Craig Woodson
They paid sticker price for Craig Woodson in the 220th overall pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick238 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at slot 238 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
