Good, not great, for the 49ers: B-. The war room fell hard for Eric O'Neill, and it showed at Round 4, Pick 38: 69 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Landing Fitzgerald that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In pick No. 26 they get a mismatch in the passing game. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick59
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A straight-up fair deal on A.J. Haulcy at slot 59, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick90
Rnd3
Caleb Tiernan
A reasonable price with a little left over, Caleb Tiernan in the 90th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis in pick 127 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick133
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138
Rnd4
Eric O'Neill
Eric O'Neill in No. 138 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick171
Rnd5
Bishop Fitzgerald
A safety of that caliber at slot 171 is the definition of value, full stop. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
