Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueD NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers let Skattebo fall and pounced. Final grade: C+.

The 49ers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Cam Skattebo fell into pick No. 249. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.

Adams has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Spending an early pick on cornerback with interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Azareye'h Thomas
In the 11th pick they get an island corner, though the board says they badly overpaid. More want than need.
Pick43 Rnd2 Princely Umanmielen
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: Princely Umanmielen for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75 Rnd3 Tyler Baron
Tyler Baron at slot 75 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick100 Rnd3 Tre Harris
They barely believed it either: Tre Harris still on the board at pick No. 100. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113 Rnd4 Nohl Williams
A curious use of the 113th overall pick. Interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Nohl Williams did not.
Pick138 Rnd4 Akili Arnold
They reached a country mile for Akili Arnold at No. 138, and the board is aghast. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick147 Rnd5 Brandon Adams
A real head-scratcher, Brandon Adams in Round 5, Pick 9 is miles ahead of his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick160 Rnd5 Chimere Dike
Steal is underselling it; Chimere Dike at pick 160 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227 Rnd7 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at Round 7, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick249 Rnd7 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in the 249th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
They paid up for Jackson Hawes at pick No. 252 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
