Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureA+
Lew should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Commanders were there to profit. Connor Lew, the No. 61 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 92nd overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They are betting Harris proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a seam-stretching tight end. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55
Rnd2
Omar Cooper Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Omar Cooper Jr. at pick 55, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Connor Lew at the 92nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick109
Rnd4
Malik Muhammad
They read the board right and Malik Muhammad was the payoff at No. 109. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Bud Clark
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Bud Clark at the Round 4 slot is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick147
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Beau Stephens. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick152
Rnd5
Isaiah World
A tidy bit of business in the 152nd pick, where Isaiah World graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick187
Rnd6
Ephesians Prysock
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ephesians Prysock in slot 187. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick209
Rnd6
Zxavian Harris
A premium they did not need to pay, Zxavian Harris a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jeff Caldwell
Fair-plus on Jeff Caldwell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
