Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureB
The Patriots answered their biggest question with Maye. Grade: B+. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Hunter at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Bobby Okereke gives the group a proven body among the projects.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at slot 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
No edge and no loss on Tyler Guyton in pick 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick68
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in the 68th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick70
Rnd3
Trey Benson
They paid sticker price for Trey Benson in the 70th overall pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick103
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at No. 103 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick143
Rnd5
Cam Hart
Fair-plus on Cam Hart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick182
Rnd6
Julian Pearl
They took Julian Pearl at par in slot 182, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick224
Rnd7
Blake Watson
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Watson at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jontrey Hunter
A tidy bit of business in the 232nd overall pick, where Jontrey Hunter graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
