FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Vikings a B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Vikings did exactly that with Jack Pyburn in the 235th overall pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Lew falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Avieon Terrell
In the 18th pick they get an island corner at fair value. More want than need.
Pick62
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy slipping to slot 62 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 26: Jacob Rodriguez for less than the market said. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick94
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Connor Lew in No. 94 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick97
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
They will replay Domonique Orange at pick 97 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Pick109
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
Good price on Michael Trigg in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick163
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kevin Coleman Jr. at pick 163. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick210
Rnd6
Jadon Canady
They took Jadon Canady at par in slot 210, which is nothing to complain about. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick234
Rnd7
Isaiah Jatta
Isaiah Jatta in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick235
Rnd7
Jack Pyburn
A big swing on Jack Pyburn at No. 235, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick244
Rnd7
Cole Payton
Cole Payton at the 244th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick257
Rnd7
Deven Eastern
They reached a country mile for Deven Eastern at Round 7, Pick 41, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
